June 22, 2019

Good Morning,

It’s hard to believe this week has been our last full week of learning for the 2018-2019 school year! We have had a great week of learning, celebration and reflection.  Take a look at some of the great opportunities this week!

GRADE FIVE FAREWELL

This week we honoured and celebrated out Grade Five students as they make the transition from elementary school to middle school.  We were honoured by reflections and memories from our students, Reid, Bethany, Amarina and Gian Luca,  and enjoyed two beautiful musical performances by all of our students. Thank you to Mrs. Devido for her work in preparing these pieces.

These amazing students have show so much growth in their time at Lynn Fripps.  They have worked to teach, model, encourage and display our district virtues of Courage, Integrity, Excellence and Community through our lens of Curiosity, Joy and Connection.   We wish you all the best in your new adventures, and want you to know there is a family here at Fripps cheering you on and waiting to here of your impending success.

A thank you to staff and parents for your planning to make this such a great celebration!

A GARDEN OF PLENTY

Our garden has provided so many terrific things this year for students: outdoor learning, care of nature and belongings, experiences with life cycles, collaboration with others, language and vocabulary development, connections to reading and writing, new friendships and JOY!  This week our students experienced the fruits of their labour by making soup from our garden veggies!  Mrs. Kevany and Mrs. Harssema helped make and serve our vegetable students to over 300 students!!!  This has been such a great opportunity for our students and I can’t wait for next year!

KINDERGARTEN REFLECTIONS

Mrs. Myers’ kindergarten class used canvases to share their favourite kindergarten memories this week.  From field trips to the Pumpkin Patch and Rogers Arena, from gingerbread to rainbows, friendships to shapes, to the Urban Safari, our students have such great memories of their Kindergarten year.  The pictures are pretty amazing!

FRICTION TRACKS

Mrs. Schroeder’s students have been exploring fore and motion and the properties of friction.  This week students worked to create friction tracks that allowed students to test how speed is impacted by friction.  Students loved being able to share their ideas and problem solve this challenge through communication and creative thinking.

NATURE’S CLASSROOM

Mrs. Swayne & Miss Wiebe’s class had their last session at Nature’s classroom this week. They formed three groups for a Jeopardy review game: The Legends, Baby Cucumbers and Nature’s Guardians. All the teams did a fantastic job of working together to come up with the answers and it was a close game. They enjoyed a harvest party and ate some fresh fruit and veggies and Lexa  was announced the winner of the poster contest. It was a great day of cooperative learning outside and a great way to wrap up some amazing learning this year.

FLIP CITY FUN

Ms. Winterbottom and Mrs. Townsend’s class had a fun year end field trip to Flip City this week.  This active and fun field trip helps to build positive experiences that allow students to build a lifetime love of physical activity and fitness.

TEDDY BEAR PICNIC

Mrs. Sukert’s class had their annual Teddy Bear Picnic this week.  Students had a great time and some yummy treats!

PEN PAL CONNECTIONS

Ms. Chui’s class visited their Pen Pals at Richard Bulpitt this week and played some of their homemade arcade games.  Students have loved getting to know one another via letters this year and had fun connecting in person!

 IT’S ALL ABOUT BALANCE

These students have been learning about balance in PE and last week created some of their own balance poses.

ADST CHALLENGES

From Lego to Keva Planks, ADST (Applied Design Skill and Technology) learning and challenges allow students to apply learning they have done to new situations and inquiry.  This week Mrs, Torgerson students explored lego building and design while Mrs. Fernandes’ Learning Commons classes used their knowledge of communities to build their own out of Keva Planks.  Both of these challenges

GRADE FIVE CAMP

Our Grade Fives has a terrific trip to Camp Timberline this week!  While the rain may have come down for a bit, it couldn’t take away the fun of horseback riding, rock climbing, wide games, archery and obstacle courses.  Students had a great time!

CURIOSITY, JOY AND CONNECTION

Our Fripps Community has really embodied our lens of Curiosity, Joy and Connection!  This week students shared stories, connected with one another and had some fun!
